LEARN UNITED Reading Tutor Program

The Coeur Alaska LEARN UNITED Reading Tutor Program partners with the Juneau School District to pair volunteers with elementary students in an effort to improve literacy skills for students by third grade. Volunteer reading tutors provide constructive guidance, positive encouragement and a literacy-rich setting for elementary school-aged children.

Through third-grade children are learning to read; after third grade, students should be reading to learn. This is critical as one of the most important predictors of graduating from high school is reading proficiently by the end of third grade.

Coeur Alaska also sponsors Discovery Southeast which deepens students connection with nature through hands-on education and exploration. Discovery Southeast promotes a better understanding of ourselves, the natural world, and our place in it. They introduce children and families to the outdoors, providing the foundation for lifelong interests, skills, and exploration.

From Thunder Mountain High School and Juneau Douglas High School athletics, to the thought provoking Women in Science program, to helping underwrite our Juneau Douglas High School Science Team travel to Seward for the National Oceans Science Bowl and our Alaska State Champion Robotics team's trip to Worlds, you will find us helping make our youth's dreams come true.

The JDHS team "Send Kelp" placed third of 17 teams in the state in the 2019 competition! We are extremely proud of their performance, especially given the large number of teams from the Anchorage area this year.
